Before you start: If you have a Power Macintosh: If your Power Macintosh has only 8 MB of memory, you will need to turn on virtual memory. (Use the Memory control panel to do this. Complete instructions are contained in the documentation that came with your Power Macintosh.) If you see a message stating that MiniCad doesn’t have enough memory to run, turn on virtual memory on and try again.
If you have a regular Macintosh: You will need 3500K of free memory to run the MiniCad demo. If you see a message stating that MiniCad doesn’t have enough memory to run, quit other open applications and try again.
Starting: There are three activities provided in this demo: a slide show, sample files, and Free Play. To start with the slide show, open the Slide Show document. To start viewing a sample file, open it from the Finder. To start with Free Play, open MiniCad 5.
Once MiniCad is running, you may change between the slide show, sample files, and Free Play as you like. However, it is a good idea to only keep only one MiniCad document open at a time—close any open MiniCad documents before opening another. This particularly applies to the Slide Show document, as it is very large.
Slide Show:
- Close any open MiniCad documents, then open the Slide Show document (if you haven’t already).
- Under the Demo menu, select either Run Slide Show or Run Slide Show (repeating). Run Slide Show will run the slide show once; Run Slide Show (repeating) will run the slide show over and over without stopping. The entire slide show takes about 7 minutes to run if left alone. Slides will advance on their own, but if you wish to skip to the next slide without waiting, just click the mouse anywhere in the MiniCad window.
- You may stop the slide show at any time by holding down the command and period keys simultaneously. It may take a second or two for MiniCad to respond—keep holding down the keys until you hear a beep.
- Be sure to close the Slide Show document before going on to the sample files or Free Play.
Sample Files:
- Open any of the provided sample files. To do this, select the Open command in the File menu, then pick one of the files in the list and click OK. Remember to close any open documents first!
- Examine the file. To move your view, use either the scroll bars or the pan tool (click on the hand icon, then click and drag in the drawing window to move). To change zoom, use the zoom in and zoom out tools. Double-clicking on the zoom tool icons will zoom in or out by 2x. To see the entire document, select Fit to Window from the Page menu.
Free Play:
- Either pick New from the File menu or open one of the sample files.
- Start playing around! To get hints about what things are and how to use them, choose Show Balloons from the help menu (the question mark menu in the top right corner of the screen). Point to any tool or menu item in MiniCad to get a help balloon about that item.
